Five things you might want to know about me:
Day Job: Writer and teacher. In my day job I teach writing skills college students (whether they like it or no—some like it more than others) and by night I write children’s stories. Okay, it’s not quite that clear cut. Sometimes I write in the day and teach at night. Sometimes I teach while I write or write while I teach. At all times I’m learning lots about teaching and writing, and about kids and college students.
Family roles: soccer mom, (my son’s a fantastic soccer player), wife, daughter, sister, sister in law and, recently, aunt.
Hobbies: Writing, of course. Sewing, yes, I make clothes, costumes, fabric paintings, and other less useful stuff. Watching my son play soccer (did I mention he’s a fantastic player?), reading kid’s lit, dancing, hanging out with my husband in a kayak (these are in no particular order, by the way) walking my dog Tintin, sleeping in, and going to my writing group.
Favourite book: Currently, I’d have to say The Thief, the Queen of Attolia and the King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner (can a trilogy count as one book?). Boy, if only I could write like that.
Writing goals: To write like Megan Whalen Turner! No really, I just want to keep exploring the world through writing and to create adventures and characters to share those adventures with. My next writing project is about a girl who moves to Ghana when she’s twelve, the family she meets and the stuff that happens to her there. It’s not as surprising as it sounds, since I moved to Ghana when I was twelve, and a lot of stuff happened when I was there.
